Was happening from June 18th ^th to July 19^th 2021

C&PE is an unconventional digital conference from an unconventional company. Just as with our unique publications, C&PE is committed to bringing content to the ophthalmology industry that can’t be found elsewhere. The program ranges from fresh takes on familiar content, to topics that wouldn’t normally be discussed at other ophthalmology conferences. Surgery performed under bizarre circumstances, creative endeavours within the field and much, much more…

Much of the scientific content will focus on Asia-Pacific and on building the bridge between Asia and other parts of the world. This goes hand-in-hand with creating new international marketing channels and networks, which we can assist with.

Unlike other shows, which have distinct communication channels, C&PE hopes to shake things up. There will be open channels and optimized networking dynamics, to best promote talking to other people … like at a real meeting. Our digital exhibition hall is ready to host attendees from all over the globe.

C&PE is supported by its society friends and partners in a variety of ways. Attendees can look forward to seeing content, booths and more from familiar ophthalmic societies worldwide.

C&PE wants to bring doctors and industry professionals from around the world together; as such, our show is free to attend for all delegates.

C&PE isn’t your normal digital conference, and a large part of that is due to the fact that it is put on by the media! During the show, we will be providing media coverage of all things CAKE & PIE: through our publications, digital show dailies, social media updates and more. This will allow all delegates to read about the sessions they couldn’t attend and to review the ones they could. We look forward to helping all attendees stay up-to-date on conference highlights before, throughout and after the event.

Dr. Sahil Thakur

Dr. William B. Trattler is a refractive, corneal and cataract eye surgeon at the Center For Excellence In Eye Care in Miami, Florida, USA. He performs a wide variety of cataract and refractive surgeries, including PRK; all laser LASIK; no injection sutureless cataract surgery; as well as laser cataract surgery. He has been an investigator for next generation technologies (like the Tetraflex accommodating intraocular lens) and procedures like corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL). His involvement in the FDA-approval study for CXL led to its approval in 2016. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Trattler is on the Volunteer Faculty at the Florida International University Wertheim College of Medicine, as well as the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been an auDr. Sahil Thakur graduated with his MBBS and MS from Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, India. He is currently a Clinical Research Fellow at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). Apart from pursuing clinical ophthalmology, he has a keen interest in developing affordable medical technology and innovations in clinical photography. He is also involved in the research and development of digital solutions for faster and efficient diagnosis of common ophthalmic disorders. Previously he has co-authored a book, Smart Resources in Ophthalmology: Applications and Social Networking and has co-edited another, Artificial Intelligence and Ophthalmology : Perks, Perils and Pitfalls. In addition to these he has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for multiple international journals. Dr. Thakur also has an interest in developing tools for ophthalmic education and has published two Android applications (Ophthalmaster and Ophthalminion) for use by residents and medical school students. Dr. Thakur is currently taking up his PhD in Clinical Sciences at the DUKE-NUS Medical School in Singapore. He can be reached at drsahilthakur@gmail.com for potential collaborations.

Dr. Diva Kant Misra

Dr. William B. Trattler is a refractive, corneal and cataract eye surgeon at the Center For Excellence In Eye CDr. Diva Kant Misra is a vitreo-retina consultant at Eye-Q Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Lucknow, India. He completed his training at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati and Byers Eye Institute, Stanford University, San Francisco (USA). He holds the post of general secretary for the Young Ophthalmologists Society of India and chief editor for the Young Ophthalmologists Times. He is the recipient of various ophthalmic awards like the APAO Achievement Award, Bangkok 2019; Best of IJO Award 2017-18; Ophthalmic Hero of India 2017 and 2018; KOS International Travel Grant 2019, Busan; the Yasuo Tano Award from APAO, Singapore 2017; APVRS Tano Award 2018, Malaysia; and other national and state level awards. He has published extensively (26 publications and book chapters), presented in conferences held at various international and national forums, and has been invited faculty in international forums like EURETINA, APAO and AAO.

Dr. Alay S. Banker

Dr. Alay S. Banker is the director of Banker’s Retina Clinic and Laser Centre in Ahmedabad, India and his practice has served the city since 2007. He started off his career as a clinical instructor and fellow at the Department of Diseases of Retina and Vitreous, Uvea and Inflammation of Eye at University of California, San Diego, USA. He was the first Indian to receive the “International Scholar Award” from AAO in 2010 and also the youngest Indian to receive the Achievement Award by the AAO in 2006. His contributions toward his medical peers and community services have also earned him the Senior Achievement Award from AAO (2013) and the Dr. Piyush Patel Award for Service to Society and Mankind from Ahmedabad Medical Association (2013). He is the senior founding editor of the Retina Image Bank (ASRS 2012), has presented at more than 250 international and national conferences with over 40 papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals, and has published five book chapters in international book publications.

Dr. Augustinus Laude

Dr. Augustinus Laude is an adjunct associate professor and a senior consultant in the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (Singapore) with clinical and research interests in medical retina diseases, cataract surgery, low vision and medical technology. He is a dually appointed adjunct associate professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, and is visiting consultant at National University Hospital, Singapore. Dr. Laude is actively involved in clinical trials (including EVEREST, HARRIER, KITE, RHINE and LUCERNE), as well as entrepreneurial activities in collaboration with engineering colleagues in the field of image processing and eye-gaze tracking.

Prof. Gemmy Cheung

Prof. Gemmy Cheung is currently a professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, National University of Singapore, and head of the Medical Retina Department at Singapore National Eye Center (SNEC). Her research focuses on retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) and myopic macular degeneration, as well as risk factors for these conditions that may be unique to Asian populations. Prof. Cheung has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Retina and Eye.

Dr. George H.H. Beiko

Dr. George H.H. Beiko is a lecturer at University of Toronto and an assistant clinical professor at McMaster University in Canada. Dr. Beiko is a medical graduate of Oxford University and completed ophthalmology specialty training at Queens University in Canada. After his residency, he worked for one year at the St. John Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem. He is currently a cataract, anterior segment and refractive surgeon practicing in St. Catharines, Ontario. His research interests include development of advanced cataract techniques and new intraocular implants. He has been an investigator in a number of Phase 1 FDA trials on intraocular lenses and he has done extensive work investigating multifocal, accommodating and aspheric IOLs. Dr. Beiko has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has also authored 10 book chapters. He has given over 500 scientific presentations at meetings throughout the world, including the annual meetings of the AAO, ASCRS, COS, CSCRS, ESCRS, WOC and ISRS.

Dr. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk

Dr. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk is a clinical professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. He is actively involved in various societies and congresses in Asia-Pacific. He is the scientific secretary of APVRS, council member of APAO, and secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Ophthalmology Society (AOS). Dr. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk was the congress president of the 34th APAO Congress 2019, congress president of the 10th APVRS Congress 2016 and was president of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand from 2013-2016.

Dr. Barbara Parolini

Dr. Barbara Parolini is a vitreoretinal surgeon who has practiced mainly in Italy since 1997. Her expertise includes complex cases of submacular surgery, diabetic retinopathy and high myopia, as well as eye reconstruction after trauma. She has operated on approximately 10,000 patients, primarily in vitreoretinal, plus cataract and refractive surgery. She has published 60 peer-reviewed papers, three book chapters and an e-book on vitreoretinal techniques that was released in 2018. Dr. Parolini is a reviewer of the following peer reviewed-journals: Graefe’s Archives of Ophthalmology, Retina Journal, European Journal of Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmologica, and British Medical Journal of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the following ophthalmic societies: GIVRE, SOI, AIMO, AAO, ASRS and EVRS. Since 2016, she has served as the vice president of the European VitreoRetinal Society (EVRS). Also, she holds a patent model of a macular buckle and a kit for episcleral surgery.ernational book publications.

Dr. Hudson Nakamura

Dr. Hudson Nakamura is an ophthalmologist specializing in the retina and vitreous. He completed his medical degree from School of Medicine at the Federal University of Goiás, UFG and residency from the Base Hospital of the Federal District, Brasília, DF. Presently, Dr. Nakamura is a member of the AAO, Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology, Canadian Society of Ophthalmology and ARVO. He currently works as a professor in the Department of Retina and Vitreous Course of Medical Residency in Ophthalmology at the Bank of Goias Eye Foundation. Dr. Nakamura holds a vitreoretinal disease fellowship from the University of Toronto Canada and the Brazilian Center for Eye Surgery.

Dr. Kenneth Fong

Dr. Kenneth Fong is recognized as an ophthalmologist in the United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia. He graduated with a medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 1998 and trained to be an eye surgeon in London. Dr. Fong then spent two more years training in the U.K. and at the Royal Perth Hospital in Australia to subspecialize in retina. After 18 years of working in the U.K. and Australia, he returned to Malaysia in 2009 to serve as associate professor, consultant ophthalmologist and retinal surgeon at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. He is currently the managing director of OasisEye Specialists in Kuala Lumpur. Dr. Fong is the president of the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology and serves as a council member for the APVRS.

Dr. Sanushka Moodley

Dr. Sanushka Moodley is a general ophthalmologist in full-time private practice at Pretoria Eye Institute in South Africa. She manages glaucoma, cornea, medical and surgical retina and cataract patients. Dr. Moodley is the current chairperson of South Africa’s Young Ophthalmologists’ Society, a position she has held since 2019.

Dr. Harvey S. Uy

Dr. Harvey S. Uy is a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of the Philippines, and medical director at the Peregrine Eye and Laser Institute in Makati, Philippines. He completed his fellowships at St. Luke’s Medical Center (Philippines) and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (USA). Dr. Uy is a pioneer in femtosecond cataract surgery, accommodation restoration by lens softening, modular intraocular lenses and intravitreal drugs. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports. He is a former president of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) and current council member of the APVRS.

Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan

Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan is the chairman and managing director of Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital. He is also the managing trustee of Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes in Mumbai, India. Prof. Dr. Natarajan is a third generation ophthalmologist in India. His late father, Prof. Dr. N. S. Sundaram and grandfather, Dr. Nataraja Pillai, were respected ophthalmologists in Tamil Nadu, India. At present, Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan is considered a global authority in vitreoretinal surgery and is keenly involved in academics and research for the prevention of blindness. He is a multi-award-winning ophthalmologist who has performed over 27,000 exclusive vitreoretinal surgeries in the past 33 years, and trained 64 vitreo-retinal surgeons across the globe. He is a visiting professor in the Maimonides University (Argentina), University of Lugano (Switzerland), Balaji Medical College (Chennai, India), and Saveetha Medical University (Chennai, India). Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital was established in 1990 by Prof. D. S. Natarajan in Dadar, and has expanded into a hospital in Wadala, in the heart of Central Mumbai

Dr. Cathleen McCabe

Dr. Cathleen McCabe serves as Chief Medical Officer at Eye Health America™. She is one of the foremost eye surgeons today, specializing in bladeless laser cataract surgery and LASIK at The Eye Associates in Sarasota, Florida. Dr. McCabe has performed over 45,000 cataract surgeries and more than 17,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. William B. Trattler

Prof. Mark Gillies

Prof. Mark Gillies presently holds a number of positions including: director of research and director of the Macula Research Group for the Save Sight Institute; foundation fellow for the Sydney Medical School; professor in the Department of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Sydney; head of the Medical Retina Unit at the Sydney Eye Hospital; deputy chair for the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia; and director of Eye Associates in Sydney. Prof. Gillies has served as a principal investigator or associate investigator in more than 70 clinical trials, and his research regarding macular degeneration and drug safety and efficacy has been published in 188 journals. He has also received a number of grants to study treatments for age-related macular degeneration, retinal disease and Muller cell dysfunction – among other treatments and studies. Prof. Gillies is a dedicated and multi-awarded researcher.

Dr. Ken Nischal

Dr. Ken Nischal is the chief of the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPMC). He is also the director of Pediatric Program Development at the UPMC Eye Center, and professor of ophthalmology at UPMC. Dr. Nischal attended King’s College Hospital Medical School at the University of London and completed ophthalmology residencies at both Birmingham and Midlands and the Oxford Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom. He completed his pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Prior to joining Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2011, Dr. Nischal was at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, U.K. Dr. Nischal is one of the pioneers of pediatric corneal transplants. Children from all over the world come to see Dr. Nischal because of his expertise in helping children with genetic corneal diseases. His research focus is on evidence-based protocol led clinical care with clinical outcome measures to drive clinical care. His main areas of clinical research are anterior segment developmental anomalies affecting the cornea, lens and trabecular meshwork. He has published widely on the topics of pediatric cataract, glaucoma and cornea as well as craniofacial anomalies. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Pediatric Glaucoma and Cataract Family Association (PGCFA) and has contributed articles and responses to its ‘Ask the Doctor” feature. He is the founder and co-director of the World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, an outstanding organization with members from around the globe.e APVRS.

Dr. Richard Packard

Dr. Richard Packard qualified as a doctor in 1970. He was a consultant at the Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor England from 1982 to 2016. He started using phacoemulsification in 1979 and in that year, he inserted the world’s first folded soft IOL during a rabbit study. In 1990, he implanted the very first Acrysof IOL; to date 125 million lenses of this material have now been implanted worldwide. He has lectured and operated in 61 countries on all aspects of cataract surgery and written many peer reviewed papers and book chapters. He was a past board member of ESCRS from 1999 to 2007 and since 2000, he has been chairman of the judges for the ESCRS Video Competition. His latest interest is in laser capsulotomy which was the subject for his Binkhorst Lecture at ESCRS in 2015. He has received many other awards. He published with Lucio Buratto on “The history and evolution of modern cataract surgery” in 2018 and in 2020 also with Lucio Buratto, on “The history of refractive surgery.”

Dr. Jay Chhablani

Dr. Jay Chhablani is a vitreo-retina specialist at the University of Pittsburgh Eye Center, Pittsburgh, USA. He completed a clinical vitreo-retina fellowship from Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India and was an International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) fellow at Jules Gonin Eye Hospital, Switzerland, in 2009. He was a clinical instructor at the Jacobs Retina Center at Shiley Eye Center, University of California, San Diego, USA (2010-2012) before joining the faculty at L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India (2012-2019). His areas of interest are macular disorders and recent imaging techniques. He published more than 380 articles in peer-reviewed journals with a focus in the field of choroid. He is the editor of the following books: Choroidal Disorders, Central Serous Chorioretinopathy and Choroidal Neovascularization. He is on the reviewing boards of all high impact journals including Science Translational Medicine. He is also on the editorial board of several journals including American Journal of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Macula Society and also a member of various committees in international societies including American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). He has won several national and international awards and delivered the inaugural Ian Constable Lecture at Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society congress in 2016. He received the inaugural Namperumalsamy Young Researcher Award in 2018, presented by the Vitreo-Retina Society of India (VRSI).

Dr. Lihteh Wu

Dr. Lihteh Wu got his medical education at Tulane University School of Medicine (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA). He was awarded a Pew Research Fellowship that allowed him to spend a year at the Rockefeller University in New York. He then trained at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City (internship), the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City (ophthalmology residency), and the National Retina Institute in Baltimore under the mentorship of Drs. Bert Glaser and Robert Murphy (vitreoretinal fellowship). In 1999, Dr. Wu went to Costa Rica where he was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Costa Rica and the Director of the Asociados de Macula Vitreo y Retina de Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica. Dr. Wu is a founding member of the Pan American Collaborative Retina Study (PACORES) Group. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer reviewed articles, more than 46 chapters and has edited 5 books. He has been awarded various accolades by numerous societies (i.e. ASRS, AAO, Greek Vitreoretinal Society) and a highly-invited speaker in international meetings. In 2018 he was inducted into the Retina Hall of Fame. Dr. Wu is past President of the Pan American Retina and Vitreous Society and served as the Vice-President for the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology. He is currently a member of the Club Jules Gonin Executive Committee and the Vail Vitrectomy Program Committee. He also served two terms as President of the Costa Rican Ophthalmological Association, and was in the Board of Trustees of the AAO. In addition, he is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Club Jules Gonin, Macula Society, Retina Society and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

Dr. Alejandro Filloy

Dr. Alejandro Filloy is a vitreoretinal surgeon and medical retina specialist at Joan XXIII University Hospital in Tarragona, Spain. He is also an associate professor of ophthalmology at Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain). Dr. Filloy graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2009. Then from 2010 to 2015, he did his residency in ophthalmology at Bellvitge Hospital in Barcelona and obtained his PhD. He further received a grant from the Spanish Vitreoretinal Society in the form of a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina. Dr. Filloy is certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). His research and conference work include papers and book chapters on medical and surgical retina, intraocular tumors, imaging and subthreshold laser for retinal diseases.

Dr. Florian Kretz

Dr. Florian Kretz is an internationally established ophthalmologist, surgeon, speaker and researcher. Dr. Victor Chong

Dr. Victor Chong is a retinal specialist with a subspeciality in macular diseases. He is currently the global head of medicine and retinal health at Boehringer Ingelheim International GmBH (Germany) and consultant ophthalmic surgeon at London Medical and Royal Free Hospital, London in the United Kingdom. Dr. Indu Pal Kaur

Dr. Indu Pal Kaur is a professor and chairperson at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. She was the director of Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility at Panjab University from 2012 to 2015 and dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, from 2017 to 2018. She has been named one of the top 2% most cited scientists across the globe as per Stanford University, USA (2020). Her research forte is enhancing the bio-performance of drugs and biomolecules using active-tailored delivery systems like solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), nano vesicles and cyclodextrin complexes. Her group has worked extensively on novel platform nanotechnologies to overcome challenges in ocular delivery of molecules like atorvastatin, bimatoprost, acetazolamide, ketoconazole, fluconazole, amphotericin B, timolol and natamycin. She has been granted 10 Indian and one U.S. patent and has filed 16 patents in the past 10 years. Out of 11 granted patents, 6 patents describe enhanced ocular delivery and patient compliance. Dr. Kaur has mentored 25 PhD graduates and received funding of 90 million INR from government agencies and industrial consultancies. She is a US-Fulbright fellow (2017-2018) and was awarded the Women Best Scientist Award in 2018 by Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI). She has delivered 50 invited talks, and has published more than 135 high impact international publications. She has also been graced with BRIC Technology Exposition Award (2019 and 2020) and Researcher of the Year award (2019) by Sunpure Research Incubation Center. The emphasis of Dr. Kaur’s work lies in industrial and clinical translation and is reflected through her 3 technology transfers to 2 Indian industries.

Dr. Matias Iglicki

Dr. Matias Iglicki is a certified teacher of ophthalmology at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Born in Buenos Aires, Dr. Iglicki went to medical school at the University of Buenos Aires and he did his residency at the Hospital de Clinicas which is part of the University of Buenos Aires, where he also completed the degree of Ophthalmology Specialist Physician Higher Course. His current activities involve research, clinical and surgical practices. Dr. Iglicki also went to the conservatory of music where he learned how to play the violin. He loves playing the violin and listening to classical music. Dr. Iglicki teaches graduate and postgraduate courses, and he is currently doing research about diabetic retinopathy at the University of Buenos Aires.

Dr. Volker Patzel

Dr. Volker Patzel is a German chemist who graduated from the Institute for Biochemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He received a Ph.D. from the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg and an MBA from the Steinbeis University in Berlin. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, then as research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin. He joined the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009 with a dual appointment as Assistant Professor at National University Singapore (NUS) and Assistant Director of Research at the University of Cambridge, UK. Currently he is a senior lecturer at NUS. He has 13 patents and applications and more than 50 publications. He is the founder of the Steinbeis Transfer Centre for Nucleic Acids Design in Stuttgart (Germany) and of AVECRIC Pte Ltd in Singapore. His research focuses on the development of RNA-based genetic therapies.

Nikki Hafezi

Nikki Hafezi studied English and Spanish at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. She also holds a Master’s degree in intellectual property from the ETH Zurich (MASIP ETHZ). Ms. Hafezi is partner of GroupAdvance (Management) Consulting GmbH, Zug, Switzerland; managing director and board member of EMAGine AG, Zug, Switzerland; head of Strategy, Business Development and Licensing, The ELZA Institute, Zurich, Switzerland; and co-founder and managing partner of the Light for Sight Foundation, Zurich, Switzerland. She lives with her husband and three daughters in Zug, Switzerland.

Dr. Kristie Nguyen

Dr. Kristie Nguyen is a board-certified optometrist. She currently serves as a contract doctor for Perez and Associates and Phan-Tastic Eye Care in Altamonte Springs, Florida, USA. After graduating in the top 10 of her high school class with honors, she went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston, Texas. While at U of H, she volunteered at a local hospital and worked as an optometric assistant. Dr. Nguyen obtained a Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) in 2005 from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She conducted her medical internships at the Chickasaw Nation Health Clinic in Ardmore, Oklahoma and the Lake Mary Eye Care in Lake Mary, Florida. Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association, Young ODs of America, OD Divas, Optometry Divas and the Central Florida Optometric Society. In addition, she has been an executive board member for Optometry Divas for the past two years. She is also a brand ambassador for an independent eyewear brand called Kazoku Lunettes and director of business development for an online optical company called Optazoom. She is also an independent consultant for Rodan+Fields, which is a global clinically tested skincare brand. Dr. Nguyen is married and has two beautiful daughters. She enjoys going to the beach, hanging out at Disney, and reading.

Dr. Sheetal Brar

Dr. Sheetal Brar is a senior consultant at Phaco and Refractive Department and research director at Nethradhama Super Speciality Eye Hospital in Bangalore, India. Dr. Brar has a special interest in cataract and refractive surgery and has trained over 75 national and international surgeons in refractive surgery, including SMILE. She has participated in over 70 master classes and instruction courses and performed live SMILE and phacoemulsification surgeries. Dr. Brar has over 40 publications in national and international peer-reviewed indexed journals and served as a peer reviewer for JRS, Cornea, BMC Ophthalmology, Open Journal of Ophthalmology and Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. She has received several prestigious accolades, including being the recipient of the “Young Physician” exchange program grant by the APACRS 2017 and APACRS Certified Educator(ACE) award at the APACRS 2019 in Kyoto, Japan.

Dr. Ashraful Huq

Dr. Ashraful Huq is a consultant ophthalmologist at Bangladesh Eye Hospital & Institute (Dhanmondi Branch), Bangladesh Eye Care Hospital (Zigatola Branch) and Lasik Sight Center (Banani Branch) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His major field of practice is refractive phaco surgery, LASIK, corneal diseases, glaucoma and refractive surgery. Dr. Huq has completed fellowships in cataract & refractive surgery, and in cornea & anterior segment from Bangladesh Eye Hospital & Institute in Dhaka and LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India. Also, he took LASIK training from Narayana Nethralaya, India. Dr. Huq is the founder president of Bangladesh Young Ophthalmologists Society. He represents the young ophthalmologists from Bangladesh in different YO international meetings. Dr. Huq is the faculty of Phaco Development & Cataract Training Program by Alcon Bangladesh & Bangladesh Eye Hospital. He is also the coordinator faculty for the Overseas Trainees of Cataract Training Program. Dr. Huq was a volunteer at the posthumous eye donation awareness in Bangladesh when he was in medical school. Continuing his dedication in this area, he is now serving the Bangladesh Eyesight Foundation as Honorary Executive Director which is working to establish a functional eye bank in Bangladesh.

Dr. Hu Lan

Dr. Hu Lan is an associate chief physician at He Vision Group and associate professor at He University, China. Dr. Hu specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of common pediatric eye diseases such as refractive error, strabismus, amblyopia, and ptosis, among others. She received her master’s degree in ophthalmology from Dalian Medical University in China, and her master’s degree in Optometry from Salus University (USA).

Dr. Zhang Mingqi

Dr. Zhang Mingqi is an associate senior researcher at the He Vision Group and director of Key Laboratory of Ophthalmic Stem Cell Tissue Engineering. She took her Ph.D. studies on stem cell and regeneration medicine. Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on stem cells and eye diseases, including limal stem cell deficiency, retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration. She received the Science and Technology Award for Excellence in stem cell treatment of retinal degeneration in 2019.

Dr. Emmanuel Eric Pazo

Dr. Emmanuel Eric Pazo is a clinical research manager at He Vision Group and a lecturer at He University, China. Dr Pazo received his Bachelor of Medicine at Tianjin Medical University, China and later completed his M.S and Ph.D. in the United Kingdom. His current research interests are in improving the quality of life for patients undergoing anterior segment eye surgery, ocular surface treatments, and refractive error patients. In addition, he enjoys training future medical students and residents, and making contributions through clinical research curriculum development.

Dr. Digvijay Singh

Dr. Digvijay Singh is the director of Noble Eye Care, Gurugram and head of the department of ophthalmology at Narayana Superspecialty Hospital, Gurugram and Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital, New Delhi. He specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma. Dr. Singh has delivered more than 100 lectures, has over 75 publications, 20 chapters and 1 book to his credit. He is currently the president of Young Ophthalmologists Society of India (YOSI) and treasurer of the Indian Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (INOS).

Dr. Wong Chee Wai

Dr. Wong Chee Wai is currently a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), an assistant professor at Duke-National University of Singapore (Duke-NUS), the clinical lead for SNEC’s high myopia clinic and deputy director of undergraduate education. He is also chair of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmologists Young Ophthalmology Chapter, and a member of the APAO YO standing committee. His main research interest is in pathological myopia, retinal diseases and ocular drug delivery.

Dr. Hung Da Chou

Dr. Hung Da Chou graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University School of Medicine (Taiwan) with honors and finished his internship with Best Surgical Intern award in National Taiwan University Hospital. He completed his residency and vitreoretinal fellowship in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, and joined the faculty. Dr. Chou performs 250+ vitrectomies yearly, has participated in various clinical trials, and won the Best Video Award at the APVRS Annual Meeting YO Video Competition (2019) and in the Taiwan Macula Society Annual Meeting (2020). He is also the founding member of the Young Ophthalmologist Committee in the Taiwan Ophthalmological Society and actively participates in YO activities in the APAC region. His clinical interests are in surgical retina, high myopia, and ocular oncology.

Dr. Charisse Sanchez-Tanlapco

Dr. Charisse Sanchez-Tanlapco MD is the first and current head of the Philippine Network of Young Ophthalmologists (PiNoY) and is the Philippines’ Young Ophthalmologist representative to the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). Dr. Sanchez-Tanlapco is a member of the APAO Social Media Committee and the Editorial Team of the APAO YO Newsletter. She is mostly a comprehensive ophthalmologist in her private practice but shuttles her way around the northern Philippines for orbit and oculoplastic surgery cases to the underserved.

Dr. Jubaida M. Aquino

Dr. Jubaida M. Aquino received her medical degree from the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital in Manila, Philippines. She completed her ophthalmology residency training at East Avenue Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology. After which, she pursued a Medical and Surgical Retina Fellowship at St. Luke’s Medical Center Eye Institute (Philippines). Currently, she is an active consultant at East Avenue Medical Center and St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines, where she is the training officer for medical students and retina fellows. Also, Dr. Aquino is the head of the Retina Service at Philippine Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Liu Ziming

Dr. Liu Ziming received his Master’s degree in Ophthalmology from Dalian Medical University, China. He was a visiting scholar at Nova Southeastern University from 2014 to 2015. His research interests are in binocular visual functions with psychophysical methodology and age-related macular degeneration.

Dr. Yan Chunhong (Helen)

Dr. Helen Yan is the executive vice president of the Public Health School of He University and the director of the Social Responsibility Department of He Vision Group, China. She received her postgraduate diploma in community eye health from University of Cape Town, and is currently a PhD candidate in Public Health of Queen’s University Belfast (Northern Ireland).

Dr. Saad Waheeb

Dr. Saad Waheeb is an associate professor of ophthalmology and a senior academic consultant. He is the ophthalmologist-in-chief at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is also the CEO and founder of First Lens Eye Center. Dr. Waheeb’s speciality is on the diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous with special interest in diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disorders. He has published in the field of retina and has been an invited speaker both nationally and internationally. He is a founding member of the Saudi Retina Society. He completed his residency and retinal fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada.

Prof. W.C. Lam

Professor Wai-Ching Lam graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Manitoba, Canada in 1982 with MD and BSc(Med) degrees. He completed his ophthalmology residency from 1988-1991, and vitreo-retinal clinical fellowship in 1992 at McGill University, Canada. Dr. Rina La Distia Nora is a medical staff in the Infection and Immunology division of the Ophthalmology Department Cipto Mangunkusumo Kirana Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Universitas Indonesia Hospital. Dr. Aditya Sethi is a pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus (Squint) specialist surgeon and neuro-ophthalmologist at Arunodaya Deseret Eye Hospital (ADEH). He graduated from the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital, Chennai, where he excelled and was nominated the Chief Resident. Dr. Sethi did his long term fellowship in the Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Dr. Vishal Agrawal is a vitreoretinal consultant and a professor of ophthalmology at SMS Medical College in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. He did his post-graduation work at the Dr. R. P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS (New Delhi, India) and took his vitreoretinal fellowship at Sankara Nethralaya, in Chennai. Dr. Sjakon George Tahija

Dr. Sjakon George Tahija is the founder and medical director of Klinik Mata Nusantara, a national chain of eye clinics in Indonesia, where he also serves as vitreoretinal consultant and surgeon at one of its clinics. Dr. Jessica Marie Abaño

Dr. Jessica Marie Abaño is the immediate past president of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) and the Philippine Ocular Inflammation Society (POIS). She is also the director of the Philippine Cornea Society and she heads the University of Santo Tomas Hospital Eye Institute. Dr. Abaño is the current chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-related matters of the PAO. Dr. Miswan Muiz Mahyudin

Dr. Miswan Muiz Mahyudin is the vice president of the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) and consultant ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon at the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital (THONEH) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. His main interest is in refractive cataract and laser refractive surgery (SMILE and LASIK). He was also the hospital chairman for the Infection Control Committee in tackling policies and management, especially regarding COVID-19, prior and during the first year of the pandemic.

Dr. Jeremy Kwok

Dr. Jeremy Kwok got his MBBS from the University of Hong Kong in 2010 and obtained his fellowship in ophthalmology at The College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong in 2017. Dr. Monica Jong is currently the executive director of the International Myopia Institute (IMI) at Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) in Sydney, Australia. IMI is a working group established after the first WHO-BHVI Meeting on Myopia in 2015. The IMI’s mission is to advance myopia research, education and patient management to prevent future vision impairment and blindness from high myopia related complications. Dr. Jong is a graduate of the optometry program at University of Melbourne, where she also completed her PhD. She then undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Toronto, in retinal imaging and blood flow in diabetic eye disease. Dr. Jong is also an assistant professor of optometry at the University of Canberra, Australia, and a visiting fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales, Sydney. Dr. Pimkwan Jaru-ampornpan

Dr. Pimkwan Jaru-ampornpan is an oculoplastics specialist and clinical instructor at Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in Thailand. She is a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a candidate member of the American Society of Ophthalmic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Dr. Pimkwan got her AB degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude at Harvard College (USA). She then completed her medical degree at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (USA), residency in ophthalmology at University of Wisconsin (USA) and clinical fellowship in eye plastic and orbital surgery at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center (USA). Her areas of interest are in thyroid eye disease, orbital surgery, and reconstructive & cosmetic surgery of eyelid and periorbital area.

Dr. Gullapalli N. Rao

Dr. Gullapalli N. Rao is the founder and chairman of L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India. After a successful career in the United States as an academic Ophthalmologist, Dr. GN Rao established the Institute. Now, 30 years later, L V Prasad Eye Institute is a complex of modern eye hospitals with advanced training programmes for ophthalmologists and paramedical personnel, an eye research centre, rehabilitation programme, product development and high quality eye care models for underserved areas. Dr. Rao received his basic medical education in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, and completed his postgraduate residency training at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. In the United States, he trained at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, and later at the School of Medicine, University of Rochester, where he continued on the faculty until 1986. Dr. Rao is a recipient of countless awards from national and international organizations, and honors, including honorary doctorates, from world renowned institutions. In 2017 he was inducted into the Ophthalmology Hall of Fame at the ASCRS Annual Meeting in Los Angeles. Also, he was given the title of Commander, Order of the Star of Africa in public service and sciences, for his distinguished service to the Republic of Liberia and to Africa by the President of the Republic of Liberia. The All India Ophthalmological Society has presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Apoorva Ayachit

Dr. Apoorva Ayachit is a consultant in the department of vitreoretina services at M. M. Joshi Eye Institute (Karnataka, India). She got her ophthalmology training from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. After finishing MS Ophthalmology, she completed her fellowship in vitreoretina at M. M. Joshi Eye Institute and was mentored by Dr. Guruprasad A S and Dr. Shrinivas Joshi. Apart from being a passionate clinician, she is a keen researcher and has over 25 publications and 8 book chapters to her credit. Her publications have been featured in prestigious international journals. Dr. Ayachit has won several national and international awards for her research. She is also a member of the team of editors of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and serves as academic-in-charge for the national young ophthalmologists’ forum.
